so it seems the axiom is true -- "The Apple Doesn't Fall Far From
the Tree". Portia was "bubbe" to our granddaughter,
and I'm proud to say they enjoyed a close and loving relationship.
It is fitting, then, that Zoe would become a poet herself. Here, for
your enjoyment, is the result of her work:
I AM FROM
I am from
Cities, streets, and sounds
From fresh baguettes and parrot sounds
From hills, church bells, fog and mist
All of his is always missed.
I am from
Bloomabilitys and absolutely normal chaos
The rhythm of my soul is the ultimate pay-off
From the sweet smelling onions
Being cut up with a knife
And the great American Songbook
As the record of my life
I am from
New faces that I always meet
And the wind that carries me off my feet
When my brother is around, I try to survive
Getting back on my feet,
I stress and strive
I am from
Love and peace of mind
All of this I try to find
Within myself, I always trust
For others to like me, like myself,
I must
